In 1998, a thorough study of Anglophone parents revealed a real demand for
their children to receive french language tuition. Frenz therefore worked
with the school in instituting a ‘French as a Foreign Language’ class.
In February 2000, the class opened
with 12 students. The children were taught to read and write in english during
the morning, in their respective classes, and united in the afternoon for their
instruction in the french language and culture. By the end of the year, there
were 20 students in this class, divided into two, novices and those with more
expertise in the subject.
Frenz helped the school to maintain
this class by contributing to the salary of the teacher and offering $4000 to
the purchase of specific teaching resources.
In 2001, the school’s priorities
moved and the class was reduced to half with each class receiving 3 hours of
tuition.
In
2003, this class exists no longer. Yet, French as a Foreign Language is
still proposed by the school’s for one hour per week, divided in two levels.
Parents wanted to enroll their children must pay $6 per session to the school.
This "after school" course has the advantage to be taught during normal school
time. Vesna Nicolic-Ivanovic teaches French as a Foreign Language and 30
children are split in two classes.
